Cure for male hair thinning
Male hair thinning and hair loss is the most common type of hair loss, caused by increasing sensitivity to male sex hormones in certain parts of the scalp. It is often hereditary.
Baldness tends to occur when the sex hormones cause hair follicles to shrink and they become too small to replace lost hairs.
Some men accept hair loss as a natural occurrence and deal with it as leaving it as it is or shaving it off completely.
However, some men might want to try to regain their hair and prevent further loss at the earlier stages and there are a number of medical treatments available.
At our clinics, you will have a consultation with a doctor who might recommend medical treatment where it is appropriate.
• Minoxidil lotion, commonly known as Regain. This is applied twice daily to the scalp. About 60 per cent of patients benefit from it to varying degrees and its effects start to wear off as soon as it is stopped.
• Finasteride, also known as Propecia, is taken as a tablet and acts to partially block the effcts of the male sex hormones that act on the hair follicles. Propecia has been shown to have a positive effect in approximately 80% of patients in 3 – 6 months. It is only available on private prescription.
Both of these medications carry side effects and it is important that you discuss these with the doctor before starting on any treatment. Because of these side effects, you will need to come back to see a doctor periodically.
