Blood Tests > BRCA Gene Testing
BRCA I & II testing tells you whether your risk for certain cancers, particularly breast and ovarian cancer, is increased.
The results of the test can guide decisions about preventive options, including lifestyle change, increased screening, or even risk-reducing surgeries.
This test is offered without any additional phlebotomy fees.
BRCA I (Breast Cancer gene 1) and BRCA II (Breast Cancer gene 2) are genes that help make proteins to fix DNA that is broken. These genes help to keep your cell’s genetic material stable. But if either of these genes mutates, their ability to fix your DNA is damaged. This puts you at risk for cancer. They are also inherited, so they can be transferred from parent to child. Therefore, if you have a family member who carries the BRCA gene, it would be extremely recommended that you get tested.
Females carrying a BRCA I or BRCA II mutation are much more likely to develop these cancers. Males carrying the mutations also stand a greater chance of developing breast cancer as well as other cancers. Having knowledge of your genetic risk allows you to take steps to avoid the development of cancer, such as more regular check-ups, lifestyle changes, or even preventive treatment, to lower your chances of developing cancer. And over 200,000 individuals in the UK might carry a BRCA mutation.
If there is a history of early breast cancer, ovarian cancer, or both breast and ovarian cancer in your family, you should opt for testing. It is the same if there is a history of male breast cancer or an established family history of BRCA mutations. You can book a BRCA blood test at one of our London locations, whichever is closest and most convenient for you.
There are two possible outcomes for BRCA testing
Use our online booking engine or book your test by giving us a call.
On the online booking engine select the “appointment type” you need.
You will be seen by one of our friendly phlebotomists or trained clinicians.

Inform your healthcare provider about any medications, supplements, or herbal remedies you are currently taking. Also, if possible, try to refrain from intense physical activity 24 hours before your test. However, there is no need to fast before the test.

A healthcare professional will draw a blood sample, usually from your arm.
The actual blood draw takes only a few minutes, though the entire appointment may last 15 to 30 minutes, including consultation and paperwork.

Results typically take 2 to 4 weeks to come back. Your healthcare provider will contact you to discuss your results and the steps you need to take going forward.
