Understanding Wellman Examinations

Life is busy, so we have designed a Wellman health screening that allows you to take charge of your health in one visit. You will spend 90 minutes with one of our highly skilled doctors for comprehensive testing, followed by a detailed bespoke report and a telephone consultation to review your results.

All of our Wellman Examinations include a head-to-toe examination to assess your lifestyle, medical history, and any current health concerns. This includes discussing your medical and family history, addressing any ongoing complaints, and conducting a resting electrocardiogram (ECG) to evaluate heart health. We also provide a heart risk calculation using the Q Risk method, extensive blood testing through our unique Platinum Blood Profile, and a prostate-specific antigen test.

Additionally, we offer a full blood profile for free within the next 6 months to help you stay informed of any developments. We understand that when you visit the doctor, you seek a positive outcome and the right lifestyle advice to move forward with confidence.

The Procedure

preparing for appointment

Pre-Appointment

To prepare for your upcoming appointment, start by gathering your medical history information and noting down any symptoms or concerns you may have. Make sure to list all current medications and supplements you are taking. If you need to fast for a blood test, plan accordingly to avoid any issues. Additionally, ensure you get enough rest before your visit and wear comfortable clothing to make the process as smooth as possible.

during the appointment

Appointment

The examination typically starts with a discussion about your medical history, including family health and lifestyle. The doctor will then perform a physical examination, checking your height, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate. Blood tests will be conducted to assess factors such as complete blood count, cholesterol, liver and kidney function, thyroid levels, and blood sugar. A urine test may also be carried out to identify issues such as kidney problems, diabetes, and urinary tract infections. If you are at risk of heart disease, an electrocardiogram (ECG) may be performed to assess heart activity. Depending on your age and family history, cancer screenings for prostate, colon, or skin cancer might be recommended. The examination often includes questions about stress, anxiety, and other mental health concerns.

post appointment

Post-Appointment

  • Your doctor will give you a call to talk you through the results within 24 hours of your medical.
  • The comprehensive report summing up the examination, its results and suggestions will be sent to you by email within 7 working days.

What are the most common conditions affecting men?
The major health conditions that affect only men are prostate cancer, prostatitis, testicular cancer, and low testosterone. It is also common for men to experience health problems caused by stress, or sexual issues such as erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation.
What can I do to keep myself healthy?
Lifestyle choices can make a huge impact on your long-term health. Things such as healthy diet, regular physical exercise, managing stress, practicing moderation with alcohol and drugs, can all make a difference. It is also important to go for regular medical check-ups, even when nothing is wrong.
Can men get breast cancer?
Yes, in rare cases men can develop breast cancer, although it is much less common than in women. Symptoms of male breast cancer include changes in the breast tissue or skin texture, the sudden appearance of a lump, or changes in the nipple such as discharge or inversion. Extra tissue around the breasts may be due to gynecomastia.
