Everything you need to know about private blood tests

We have seen a big jump in the number of first-time users of our private blood testing service over the last year as the population becomes more health-aware and knowledgeable about their health. From routine monitoring of cholesterol levels and diabetes risk to preventative screening for signs of liver or kidney function issues, anaemia, low vitamin and mineral levels, hormone imbalances and more.

If you aren’t sure whether private blood testing is for you, we’ve written this helpful guide to let you know how it works, how to self-refer and more!

Let’s start with the basics!

Do I need a doctor or GP referral for private blood tests?

For the majority of the blood tests we offer, you do not need a doctor or GP referral. This is because we have extensive safety netting in place to ensure that if an abnormality is found, we will let you know what to do next, whether that is taking your result to your GP or repeating your test after an appropriate period of time. If anything significantly abnormal shows up, one of our GPs will give you a call.

For some blood tests, you should consider a consultation with us or speak to your doctor first because they might have advice on whether this is the right test for you, the right time of your cycle or time of day to have the test and also, sometimes, the interpretation of the result is difficult without that clinical information.

But overall, self-referral is accepted for most tests, including our Platinum Profile, full blood profile, cholesterol and diabetes testing, sexual health testing, cervical smear tests and more.

Why are your results so much faster than the NHS? Are they accurate?

We work with accredited laboratories that service all of London’s private hospitals. The results are accurate and reliable. The results are fast because, in private healthcare, there is no backlog and volumes are well-managed by the laboratories.

Are there any hidden charges? How will I know what it will cost?

Some private clinics have hidden charges, so you should be clear about this before booking. With us, however, there are no hidden charges and no surprises.

Most of our fees are published for every test and package on our website. If you have a range of tests you require, for example, if your doctor requests blood tests, the easiest thing to do is email us your list, and we’ll write back with an accurate quote. There are no hidden charges; your quote is documented on your booking.

How do I book?

It’s easy to book via our online booking system or give us a call!
