New travel quarantine & testing rules – UK

It’s all become a bit confusing, right? We hope this summary helps make sense of the new rules.

Please tell me what the new rules are!

From 15th February, the UK is ending all ‘travel corridors’ and beginning new travel quarantine and testing rules for all arrivals in the UK.

If you are arriving in the UK from 15th February 2021, you will need to either:

  • Quarantine in the place you are staying for ten days
  • Quarantine in a designated hotel for ten days if you have travelled from a “red list” country.

You will also need to have two COVID-19 PCR tests, one at 2 days and one at day 8, after which you can be released from quarantine after day 10. You have to book your travel testing package before you travel from the UK government at a cost of £210 using the government online portal. This testing is so that the government can continue to track the movement of new variants of COVID.

So what has happened to the test to release on day 5?

The good news is that you can still be released from quarantine if you test for COVID privately on day 5.

You cannot be released early from quarantine if you have travelled from any red list country, however. You must then follow the national guidelines as usual.

The private COVID-19 PCR provider must, like our clinic, be accredited by UKAS and on the official government list of providers for Test to Release.

Do I need to book my test to release the COVID -19 test before I travel?

No, although with our easy-to-use online booking system you can if you wish. You can organise this test after you land.

What is the difference between the government travel test package & the test to release test?

The government travel package is designed to keep track of new variants entering the country and keep control of this. New variants pose a threat to the effectiveness of the vaccine programme.

The test to release is designed to ensure you are not positive for COVID before leaving quarantine and day 5 has been shown to be enough time for the virus RNA to show up on a PCR test.

How much does your test-to-release PCR test cost and when will I get my result?

Standard test – £175 – result next day by 8 pm

Premium test – £245 – result next day by 8 am

How do I book my test-to-release COVID-19 PCR test?

You can book online, by calling us or using the contact form.
