Adulting Is Stressful – Let’s Take Control

Navigating the transition into adulthood can feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded with a ticking countdown, exciting but also super overwhelming. You’re not alone in feeling stressed; many of your peers are riding the same rollercoaster.

Here’s some friendly advice to help you tackle that stress like the superstar you are:

1. Embrace Your Emotions

First off, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. Adulting comes with a ton of responsibilities, and it’s perfectly normal to feel a mix of excitement and anxiety. Acknowledge your feelings instead of pushing them aside. Journaling can be a great way to process what you’re going through. Plus, it’s a perfect way to vent without judgment!

2. Find Your Tribe

Surround yourself with people who get you. Friends, family, or even online communities can provide a solid support system. Share your experiences, listen to theirs, and remember that you’re not alone in this journey. Sometimes, just talking it out can lighten the load.

3. Set Realistic Goals

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you look at the big picture. Break your goals into smaller, manageable tasks. Instead of saying, “I need to get my life together,” try, “Today, I’ll tackle my budget” or “I’ll apply for one job.” Celebrate the small wins, because they add up!

4. Prioritise Self-Care

Remember to take care of yourself! You might have watched your parents struggle through and not make time for self-care, there was definitely a cost to their emotional wellbeing of living that way. Make time for activities that rejuvenate you, whether it’s binge-watching your favourite show, going for a walk, or practicing yoga. Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential. Make it a non-negotiable part of your routine.

5. Unplug When Needed

Social media can be a double-edged sword. While it connects us, it can also amplify stress and comparison. If you find yourself feeling anxious after scrolling, take a break. Unplugging for a few hours or even a day can help you reconnect with yourself and reduce anxiety.

6. Seek Help If You Need It

There’s absolutely no shame in reaching out for professional help if you’re feeling consistently overwhelmed. Therapists and counselors are there to help you navigate these feelings. It’s a sign of strength to seek support when you need it.

7. Remember, It’s a Journey

Lastly, remind yourself that everyone’s path is different. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to adulthood. It’s okay to take your time, make mistakes, and learn along the way. Growth doesn’t happen overnight, and that’s completely fine.

You’ve got this! Adulting can be a wild ride, but with a little patience and the right mindset, you can navigate it successfully. Take a deep breath, lean on your support system, and remember to enjoy the journey.
