Have you been considering visiting a private clinic for your cervical smear test, but are unsure where to begin? Worried about hidden costs? We’re here to answer your questions and give you more information about cervical smear screening.

Let’s start with the basics

You can book your private cervical smear test with us online or by calling us. The total cost is £195, which includes the consultation with a specialist nurse, the procedure, and the results, including a follow-up phone call from the nurse to explain your results if they are abnormal or if you have any questions.

The smear screening includes testing for common HPV (human papillomavirus) strains. If you are positive for a high-risk strain, the advice about when to retest will likely change, making it an important aspect of your cervical smear test result.

If your smear test is abnormal and you need a referral, we can refer you privately immediately, or you can take your results to your own GP to seek a referral.

What are the benefits of having this test privately?

  • You can usually get a fast or same-day appointment with  us
  • Results are fast – just 3 – 5 days
  • Fast-track referral to a specialist is available if needed

Why should I have a cervical smear test?

Cervical smear testing, also known as a Pap smear or Pap test, is a vital preventative measure for women’s health. This test is used to detect abnormal cells on the cervix, which can be an early sign of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women worldwide, but with early detection and treatment, it is highly curable.

The importance of cervical cancer screening, also known as cervical smear testing, cannot be overstated. Regular testing is recommended for all women within three years of becoming sexually active, whichever comes first.

Regular cervical smear testing is essential because it can detect abnormal cells before they develop into cancer. As cervical cancer develops slowly, a routine smear test gives multiple opportunities for intervention. Early detection and treatment can prevent cancer from developing and save lives.

What’s the procedure like? Does it hurt?

The procedure is simple and quick. Most women do not experience pain, but some women can find the speculum a little uncomfortable. Our nurse will do everything she can to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Our nurse will explain the procedure to you and consult about any symptoms or concerns you may have.  During the test, the nurse will use a speculum, then collect a small sample of cells from the cervix using a soft brush. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis. The test results will be available within 3-5 days.

We hope this has helped clarify any concerns about going private for your smear test. Call us or book online today, and we look forward to welcoming you!
