Our Wellwoman Clinic is here for women

Women struggling to access healthcare

During the pandemic, women suffered the most when it came to accessing healthcare. Of 100,000 women surveyed, the following issues were raised as lacking:

  • gynaecological conditions (63%)
  • fertility, pregnancy, pregnancy loss and postnatal support (55%)
  • the menopause (48%)
  • menstrual health (47%)
  • mental health (39%)

This is partly due to gender bias, resulting in health issues that primarily afflict women being seen as less urgent, especially gynaecological symptoms.

Our Wellwoman clinic is run by women for women, from our management team to our clinical lead. Our new female patients have been telling us similar stories, that they have struggled to get the support they need to deal with multiple issues and have come to us for help. These issues have included:

  • Hormonal changes and hormonal imbalances
  • Reproductive health, including coil insertion and removal
  • Appointments for cervical smear/pap screening
  • Pregnancy blood tests
  • General blood tests
  • Enough time with a GP to resolve complex health issues
  • Menopause and perimenopause
  • Period/menstruation changes
  • Sexual health

How we responded

In mid-2020, our management and clinical team got together to discuss how we would respond to the issues affecting women and appropriate access to healthcare. Since then, we have brought on more female GPs and a brilliant specialist reproductive and sexual health nursing team and launched a Well-woman Clinic to support women in all areas they struggle to access.

Our Wellwoman clinic provides multiple services, including:

Our focus has been:

  • Fast access
  • Fast results
  • Patient choice
  • Affordable, transparent fees
  • Fast-track referrals to gynaecologists and other specialist colleagues
