Cardiac Risk Profile Testing

A cardiac profile test is a blood test that measures the level of cardiac markers in your blood. This test helps evaluate your risk of cardiovascular disease and goes beyond standard cholesterol tests to provide a comprehensive evaluation of your cardiovascular health.

It also helps identify hidden risks of heart disease, allowing you to take proactive measures to maintain a healthy heart (and long and active life).

Why Is This Blood Test Important?

According to the British Heart Foundation, around 620 million people worldwide are living with cardiovascular disease (CVD). In the UK, about 2.3 million people are living with Coronary Heart Disease (CHD).

Making a cardiac risk profile more important than ever. It can help give you a clear picture of your heart health and the opportunity to act proactively. It identifies hidden risk factors before they develop into significant health problems. It also enables tailored recommendations for diet, exercise, and medication if necessary.

Who Should Consider This Test?

Your doctor may recommend you get this blood test if you:

  • Lead a sedentary lifestyle.
  • Have a family history of heart disease.
  • Have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or diabetes.
  • Are over 40 years old and looking to prioritise their heart health.
  • Have lifestyle factors that could contribute to cardiovascular risks.
  • Are experiencing symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, or fatigue.

Monitoring Treatment Progress

If you are already undergoing treatment for high cholesterol, diabetes, or other related conditions, a cardiac risk test can help closely monitor your progress and overall health.

It provides detailed insights and helps determine whether your current treatment plan is achieving the desired results.

Benefits Of Early Detection

Understanding your cardiac health early can make a significant difference. It can help

  • Identify risk factors before they develop into serious conditions
  • Reduce the likelihood of heart attack or stroke through timely intervention
  • Gain insights to improve your overall health and longevity
  • Empower you to take control of your lifestyle and treatment plans

Preparing for test

You may be asked to fast for about 8 to 12 hours before your advanced cardiac risk profile test. To ensure accurate results, especially for lipid and glucose levels, avoid eating or drinking anything except water. Also, please avoid alcohol, smoking, or heavy exercise 24 hours before your test. All of these can affect your lipid levels and inflammatory markers.

During the test

One of our trained professionals will collect a small sample of your blood. It is a quick procedure and typically takes less than 10 minutes. Once your blood draw is complete, you can eat, drink, and return to your normal activities again (unless advised otherwise).

What do abnormal results mean?
Abnormal findings may indicate multiple things. More often than it can indicate that you may have an elevated risk for conditions like atherosclerosis or other cardiovascular diseases, prompting lifestyle or medical interventions.
How often should I take this test?
Frequency depends entirely on your individual risk factors. If you are at higher risk or managing ongoing conditions, your healthcare provider might recommend testing annually (or even more frequently). While it cannot predict an exact event, the test identifies risk factors that, when managed, significantly reduce the likelihood of heart attacks, strokes, or other cardiovascular issues.
What steps should I take if my test results indicate high risk?
If your results show you are at high risk, your healthcare provider may suggest certain lifestyle changes. These may include improving diet, getting regular exercise, and quitting smoking. It may also include medications to help manage cholesterol, blood pressure, or inflammation. Follow-up testing may be recommended.
