A sports cardiology consultation with our specialists includes a thorough review of your medical and athletic history, evaluation of symptoms, and various tests such as an ECG, cardiovascular examination, stress or exercise testing, and blood tests. Depending on your needs, recommendations for physical therapy may also be provided.
You may seek a sports cardiology evaluation for clearance to participate in specific sports, to address ongoing symptoms or performance issues, for advice on managing cardiovascular risk factors, or to understand your cardiovascular health in relation to your sports activities.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, it may be beneficial to seek a sports cardiology evaluation. Chest pain or discomfort, particularly during exercise or physical exertion, could be a sign of underlying issues.
Unusual or excessive shortness of breath during or after physical activity may also warrant further investigation. Palpitations, or irregular and rapid heartbeats that feel unusual or uncomfortable, are another reason to consult with a specialist. Episodes of dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting during or after exercise should not be ignored.
Extreme or unexplained fatigue that affects your performance during or after physical activity can also be a red flag. Additionally, unexplained swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet might be related to cardiovascular problems and should be evaluated.

Be prepared to provide a detailed medical history, including any symptoms (like chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath), family history of heart disease, and previous health issues. Bring any relevant documents such as previous test results, a list of medications, and details of any past medical conditions. Note your exercise routine, type of sports, and any recent changes in activity levels or training intensity.
We will review your medical history, discuss your current exercise regimen, and inquire about any symptoms. A general physical exam may be conducted, including checking your heart rate, blood pressure, and possibly listening to your heart. We will provide an ECG (electrocardiogram) and stress or exercise testing, blood tests, and recommendations for any physical therapy training you may need.
You will receive a summary of the findings. If any issues were detected, the cardiologist will discuss potential next steps, which might include further testing or a referral to a specialist. If advised, make the recommended changes to your exercise routine or lifestyle. This might include modifying your training intensity, adding specific exercises, or adhering to certain precautions.
