Visa Medicals For Ghana

If you are a UK citizen planning to visit or work in Ghana, you will be required to undergo a medical examination as part of your visa application process.

Our clinic provides fast, reliable, and fully compliant and consulate-approved Visa Medical services to help you meet the Ghanaian High Commission’s health requirements.

Included In Your Visa Medical

You will be required to have a Yellow Fever Certificate (i.e. proof of yellow fever vaccination) when travelling to any yellow fever risk area like Ghana.

You will also need to undergo a physical exam and a series of other tests (blood tests, stool tests, and a chest X-ray) to check for infectious diseases like HIV and TB. All with which we can assist you with.

We offer transparent pricing with no hidden fees at our FCO-recognised clinic, helping to streamline your visa application process

Other Medical Recommendations

It is also recommended that you are up to date with routine vaccination courses and boosters as recommended in the UK.

These vaccinations typically include the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine and diphtheria-tetanus-polio vaccine.

Since Malaria (Plasmodium falciparum) is prevalent in Ghana, it is just as important to ensure your antimalarial precautions are up to date.

Ghanaian Visa Medical Made Easy

Preparing for your visa medical exam can make all the difference in ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience. Here are our top tips to help you get it right the first time:

  • Before your appointment, check the specific medical requirements for your visa type.
  • Drink plenty of water beforehand, as it helps with blood draws.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine before your medical exams, as they can affect certain test results and blood pressure readings.
  • Bring your visa application documents or any health requirement letters, as well as any relevant vaccination records, especially Yellow Fever.
  • Wear comfortable clothing as it makes your physical examination a whole lot easier.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to arrive and settle. Rushing can increase stress levels and also impact your blood pressure or test accuracy.

Why is a visa medical examination required?
It helps ensure that travellers do not pose a public health risk. It also helps Ghanaian authorities maintain public health safety.
What happens if the visa medical examination detects a medical condition such as an infectious disease?
If a medical condition is detected, you may be required to undergo treatment before being granted a visa. Ghanaian authorities may also delay or deny visa approval until the health issue is resolved.
Can I use my NHS medical records or GP check-up to fulfill the visa medical requirement for Ghana?
No, unfortunately, an NHS general check-up or your usual GP visit is not sufficient. The visa medical must be conducted by an FCO-recognised and approved clinic like ours, which follows specific protocols and provides official documentation recognised by Ghana’s authorities.
Are there exemptions from the TB testing requirement?
Exemptions may apply to certain individuals, such as children under 11 years old or diplomatic passport holders.
