Long-Term Visa Medicals For British Virgin Islands

Planning on temporarily or even permanently moving to the British Virgin Islands (BVI)?

Then you are required to undergo a visa medical examination as part of your application process.

Our FCO-registered clinics offer a comprehensive and stress-free visa medical service tailored to meet the BVI’s immigration requirements.

BVI Visa Medical Requirements

The BVI government typically requires a medical certificate to confirm that you are in good health and free from communicable diseases.

The visa medical process is fairly straightforward, and typically requires a physical examination, blood tests (full blood count and biochemistry), urine tests, and a chest X-ray to screen for tuberculosis (TB).

Examples Of Communicable Diseases

Communicable diseases (also known as infectious diseases) are illnesses caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi that can be spread from one person to another, either directly (coughing, talking, touching, kissing, sexual contact) or indirectly (touching contaminated surfaces or objects).

Examples of bacterial communicable diseases include Tuberculosis and gonorrhoea. Viral communicable diseases include hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS. And one of the most well-known parasitic communicable diseases is malaria.

Do I need to book a visa medical if I am planning on studying in the British Virgin Islands?
Yes, any type of stay that is longer than 3 months (i.e. not a holiday) requires you to undergo medical testing. The medical is mandatory to ensure you do not pose a public health risk.
How recent must my medical exam be when submitting my BVI visa or work permit application?
It needs to be fairly recent and should generally be dated within 3 months of your application submission. Outdated reports may be rejected, requiring you to repeat the medical examination before your visa can be approved.
Are children required to undergo visa medicals for the BVI?
Yes, children moving to the BVI as dependents may also need to undergo a medical assessment, though the requirements may be modified based on age. For example, chest X-rays and certain blood tests are often not required for children under a specific age (typically under 12).
