Medicals For Cyprus Visa Applicants

In 2023, approximately 1.3 million British citizens visited Cyprus.

Even though UK citizens typically do not require a visa or medical examination to enter Cyprus for short stays of up to 90 days, you will need a visa (and a medical examination) if you intend to stay in Cyprus for work, study, or residency.

We provide comprehensive visa medicals tailored to meet the requirements set by Cypriot authorities and ensure your paperwork is completed accurately and efficiently. Our clinics are FCO-registered and offer transparent pricing, so you never have to stress about unwelcome bills at your doorstep.

Preparing For Your Visa Medical

Before your appointment, it is recommended that you refrain from drinking alcohol or use recreational drugs, as these can affect your test results.

It is also highly recommended you try and get a good night’s sleep, as studies have actually shown that poor sleep can affect up to 40% of blood test outcomes.

Plus, be sure to bring all the papers you need, like your passport, visa application forms, and any medical reports or prescriptions.

Cypriot Visa Health Requirements

When travelling to Cyprus for longer than 3 months, you will typically be screened for HIV/AIDS, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, and TB, depending on your specific visa.

Other vaccinations to consider (though not compulsory) include the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, the diphtheria-tetanus-polio vaccine, and pre-exposure rabies vaccinations.

The latter is especially important if you are at increased risk due to your work (e.g., laboratory staff working with the virus or those working with bats).

Why UK Citizens Need Medicals To Visit Cyprus

Although there are strong ties between the UK and Cyprus, a long-term visa medical is still required as to:

  • Prevention of communicable diseases.
  • Protect its population from potential health risks.
  • Cyprus aligns its health screening procedures with international standards to maintain the integrity of its immigration system and safeguard public health.

Who needs to undergo a medical examination for a Cyprus visa?
Generally, all individuals (both UK citizens and foreign nationals from countries outside the EU/EEA) applying for employment, study, or long-term residence in Cyprus may be required to submit medical test results.
What happens if the visa medical examination detects a medical condition such as an infectious disease?
Fasting is not usually required for the standard Cyprus visa medical, as the tests typically do not include fasting blood sugar or lipid profiles. However, it is always best to confirm with the clinic beforehand.
What happens if one of my test results is abnormal?
If a test result is outside the normal range or indicates a medical condition such as active tuberculosis or a transmissible infection, the clinic will typically inform you and may refer you to a specialist for further evaluation. Depending on the condition and visa category, your application could be delayed or declined.
Are there any exemptions from the medical examination?
Exemptions may apply based on the type of visa or specific circumstances. It’s advisable to consult the Cypriot embassy or consulate for detailed information.
