Coils can stay in place for up to 5 or 10 years, depending on the type, but we can remove them whenever you need. Once a coil is removed, you become fertile again. Plus, if needed, we can remove and replace a coil in a single, straightforward procedure.

We are committed to providing a compassionate and supportive experience, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff, led by female clinical and management teams.

To remove an IUD, the provider will first insert a speculum into your vagina to clearly visualise the cervix. Using a special instrument, the provider will then grasp the IUD strings.
Finally, the IUD will be gently pulled out through the cervix. It should come out easily, although in some cases, a bit of manipulation may be necessary.
After removing your coil, it is important to choose the contraceptive method that best suits your needs. If you are thinking about starting a family soon, you might prefer methods that allow for a quick return to fertility.
On the other hand, if you are not quite ready to have children, take the time to consider the effectiveness of various options in preventing pregnancy. Whether you are considering a new IUD, an implant, or the pill, our team is here to support you every step of the way and provide the caring guidance you need.
There are several reasons you might need to have your coil removed, including:
Use our online booking engine or book your test by giving us a call.
On the online booking engine select the “appointment type” you need.
You will be seen by one of our friendly doctors or trained clinicians.
Prepare for your coil removal GP appointment by noting your medical history, symptoms, and any questions you may have. Discuss any previous experiences with the coil and consider pain management options.
Your GP will discuss the procedure with you, addressing any concerns or questions you may have. A pelvic examination will be conducted to locate the strings of the coil. Using a specialised instrument, your healthcare provider will gently remove the coil. You may feel some discomfort, but the process is typically swift. Your GP may confirm that the coil is intact and ensure that it is fully removed.
You may experience some cramping or spotting after the IUD is removed. This is usually temporary. If you plan to switch to another form of contraception, discuss your options with your provider. They can help you choose the best method for your needs.
